California Extreme 2011

Did you know there's an entire weekend event dedicated to playing classic arcade and pinball machines, absolutely free? I didn't know either, until two weeks ago! The locals call it "California Extreme 2011," but I chose to call it "Awesome Fest 2011 Fuck Yeah." Pat, Anna and I rolled down to AF2011FY in Santa Clara last weekend to check out some industry history. This year's event was host for hundreds of coin-op and pinball machines from as far back as the 60's. They even had Pong, which was originally released by Atari in, if I remember correctly, 900 B.C. On the newer end of the coin-op spectrum, there was an arcade cabinet version of the latest Mortal Kombat. We straight up played games until our arms were sore and our eyes were red.
